KUNDASANG: The Fire and Rescue team successfully extricated ten individuals who were trapped after their Urvan van veered off the road into a 50-meter-deep ravine at the Nickgold Resort tourist area last night.
Head of the Ranau Fire and Rescue Station Ridwan Mohd Taib reported that the victims, aged between 4 and 68, only experienced minor injuries, although one elderly person was trapped.
He noted that the team utilised specialised equipment to rescue the trapped individual, and all victims were subsequently transported to the Ranau District Hospital for further medical attention.
“The fire department received an emergency call at 7:56 PM, and eight personnel, led by Operations Commander PBK II Wasli Saupin, promptly proceeded to the scene, located approximately 20 kilometres away.
“Upon arrival, they discovered nine victims with minor injuries and one elderly person believed to be trapped inside the van,” he said in a statement today.
Ridwan further mentioned that after confirming the absence of additional hazards at the site, the operation was completed by 9:50 PM.
