KOTA KINABALU (Nov 22): Yang Andi, Vice Governor of China’s Jilin province, led a delegation of 83 people from 42 companies to take part in the Malaysia (Sabah) – China Business Summit 2024.
Speaking at the summit’s Economic Forum at the Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC) here today, Yang said their participation underscores their keenness to deepen understanding and launch economic, trade and cultural exchanges and cooperation with Sabah.
She said their participation in the three-day event was also spurred from a delegation visit led by Sabah Industrial Development and Entrepreneurship Minister Datuk Phoong Jin Zhe to her province three months ago, where the two parties had in-depth exchanges on agriculture and agricultural product exports and reached a cooperation agreement.
“There is an old saying in China along the lines of, ‘To receive and not give back is disrespectful’, so the Jilin province had also organised a large delegation to come to Sabah and participate in this summit.
“We will develop economic, trade and cultural exchanges and cooperation with Sabah, and we look forward to deepening our understanding, enhancing friendship and mutual cooperation between both parties,” she said.
When introducing the Jilin province, Yang said it is a major food production area, with one of its towns known as the “Hometown of Ginseng” which produces not only 60 percent of China’s ginseng but 40 percent of the world’s.
She said Jilin’s high-end manufacturing industry is also very developed, recalling this province had recorded several firsts for China, such as developing its first car and filming its first movie, as well as in building its first large-scale hydropower station.
“I hope that Malaysia Airlines can develop routes together with the Jilin province, and the route development can receive financial subsidies from the government,” added Yang.
