KUDAT: Kapitangan Primary School in Pulau Banggi was chosen as one of the schools for one of the British Council’s global English programmes, “Voices Across Worlds: Bridging Cultures Through Performing Personal Narratives,” together with three other schools from Palestine, Greece and Cameroon.
These schools were selected based on the applications to the Language for Resilience Grants in which the results were announced in April 2024, said English teacher, Dayang Kasimah Jail.
She said the project required the participating schools to perform personal narratives on Zoom in order to celebrate cultural diversity while improving their artistic creativity and English language proficiency.
Dayang Kasimah said 15 pupils aged 10 to 12 years old of Dusun Bonggi and Ubian descent, were involved in the project.

These two schools collaborated in delivering remote theatres on three stories – The Mother’s Gift, An Unforgettable Rescue and Lost in Jerusalem.
“The school spent the grant given by the British Council on equipment needed to perform a remote play such as green screen, wireless microphone, speaker, projector and amplifier and the school has designated a room for this equipment to be stored and used,” she said.
Dayang Kasimah said the students and teachers can use the room for multiple purposes specifically for multimedia projects.
According to her, the remote plays performed by the pupils have been recorded and these recordings would be shown at several theatres in London.
School headmaster, Sinyu @ Abdul Rahman bin Hj Tammayo, congratulated the team.
He also expressed his delight and pride on the milestone that these pupils have reached since this success proved that the pupils on the island are just as capable as their urban counterparts if given support, trust and a platform to explore their talents and hone their skills.
