KOTA KINABALU (Nov 23): Attempted cable theft was the cause of the power outage in Kinarut on Saturday, Sabah Electricity Senior General Manager (Asset Management), Ir. Mohd Yusmanizam Mohd Yusof said.
Mohd Yusmanizam in a statement yesterday said that upon receiving complaints about the power outage, the technical team conducted a prompt inspection and discovered that a 33kV Lokawi-Kinarut underground cable had caught fire beneath the Kinarut River bridge due to an attempted cable theft.
Despite the challenges, power was gradually restored starting at 2:18 a.m. and fully resumed by 3:37 a.m., minimizing inconvenience for more than 8,000 affected users.
