KOTA KINABALU (Oct 4): The 1.5km road from the main entrance to the Universiti Malaysia Sabah Hospital (HUMS) is now open for public use.
Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi said the road would reduce traffic congestion inside the university and save travelling time to HUMS.
“We should be proud because another project has been completed perfectly within the stipulated time.
“So I congratulate and thank the contractor and all relevant departmental agencies which have successfully completed this project, and benefits road users and also HUMS,” he said at the handover of the road today.
Also present were Deputy Chief Minister III Datuk Ir Shahelmey Yahya and Deputy Minister of Higher Education Datuk Mustapha Sakmud.
Alexander said the road will also be able to benefit the residents and the local community when HUMS is completed and operates by 2026.
He said the project started on March 15, 2021 with a cost of RM18.94 million and was fully designed by the Public Works Department (JKR) of Malaysia while the project supervisor was JKR Sabah which was managed by the implementing contractor Kini Progresif Sdn Bhd.
“This project has been completed and the Certificate of Completion of Work (CPC) has been certified on July 1 this year.
“There were various challenges faced in completing this project, especially the Covid-19 pandemic outbreak and the implementation of the MCO which hindered the use of human resources and the movement of machinery and construction materials.
“The location of the project is also a challenge in the implementation because there are various utility agencies involved such as Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd, Telekom Malaysia, Sabah State Water Department and UMS internal utilities. This indirectly also affected the completion period of the project,” he said.
