KOTA KINABALU (Nov 25): The Energy Commission (ST) disposed of 1,224 items valued at over RM100,000 confiscated from cases across Sabah.
This disposal process involved several cases, namely, Ops Curi Elektrik (involving five investigation papers), Ops Kelengkapan Elektrik (four investigation papers), and Electrical Accident Cases (four investigation papers).
Energy Commission’s Investigation Unit Deputy Director, Nik Mohd Bakhry Abu Bakar, oversaw the disposal process at a metal waste disposal center in Kota Kinabalu Industrial Park.
The disposal was carried out under the directive of the deputy public prosecutor in accordance with Section 406A of the Criminal Procedure Code (Act 593). It involved 13 investigation papers that had been resolved through court proceedings and compound settlements.
To ensure compliance with the Environmental Quality Act 1974 and the Environmental Quality (Scheduled Waste) Regulations 2005, ST appointed a licensed company to manage e-waste sustainably.
The process involved segregating the waste into categories such as scheduled waste, recyclable waste and rubbish; and disposal based on segregation, with items sent to buyers or full recovery facilities for further processing.
