Forest degradation, illegal hunting and poaching for parts are among threats that Sabah’s sun bears continue to face to this day.
As such, The Luma Hotel, the Bornean Sun Bear Conservation Centre (BSBCC) and Crack Inc. Coffee are jointly organising an “Art Exhibition and Coffee Experience” as part of a tri-party collaborative Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) project to save the sun bears.
Themed “Connect, Conserve, Collaborate” — the event, to be held at The Luma Hotel, comprises an art exhibition that will run from Nov 25 to Dec 4 while Crack Inc. will concurrently conduct a three-day coffee pop-up event from Nov 25 to 27.
The fundraising project aims to support and to increase awareness of the BSBCC’s effort in protection and conservation of sun bears. It also aims to promote local relevance in tourism and coffee culture of Sabah through The Luma Hotel – a member of the Design Hotels and Crack Inc. Coffee – a local coffee roaster.
The art exhibition will see various artworks and masterpieces produced by local artists for sale, based on a sun bear theme. These artists include Charles Mawan, Herman Duang, Arthur Siowou, Tan Sheau Ling, Azlan Dulikab, Adrian Ho, Wong Siew Lee and Ken Tan. The public can make their contributions by purchasing their paintings and BSBCC merchandise.
Meanwhile, the three parties had earlier signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to solidify their agreement and collaboration towards the partnership programme.
BSBCC Chief Executive Officer and Founder Dr. (Hon)Wong Siew Te said the project is instrumental in bridging the knowledge gap when it comes to sun bear conservation
