
The victim who was killed by a crocodile while fishing at Sungai Taman Kenari in Sandakan.
SANDAKAN (July 15): A foreign man was killed by a crocodile while fishing in a river at Sungai Taman Kenari here on Monday evening.
Obing Markum, 30, was reportedly attacked by the crocodile around 6pm while fishing alone in the area.
According to villagers, the victim’s boat was later found by the riverbank bearing visible crocodile bite marks.
Sandakan Fire and Rescue Station chief Jimmy Lagung said they received a distress call at 8.50am on Tuesday, prompting the deployment of five personnel to the location. The operation was carried out with assistance from other agencies and local residents.
The search team found the victim’s body at around 2.14pm, approximately one kilometre from where the boat was discovered.
“The body was handed over to the police and taken to Sandakan Hospital for further action,” said Jimmy.
