KOTA KINABAU (Sept 22): MCA Sabah welcomed its first affiliate members during its annual general meeting here on Sunday.
The 100 affiliate members were represented by Trevor Maringking who handed over their application forms to MCA President Datuk Seri Wee Kah Siong.
Trevor said that they joined MCA because they believe that the national party will be the way forward to establish unity in the country.
“We are not denying the local parties’ fight to rule which we completely agree with but we think that unity will be best served being in a national party.
“So we chose this opportunity to be MCA’s affiliate member.
“It is also the vision of Datuk Tay for MCA Sabah to be inclusive of all Sabahans and we want to help MCA Sabah to be seen as a party for all Sabahans,” he said.
Trevor added that the 100 affiliate members are from Penampang, Tuaran and Semporna.
Meanwhile Wee said that MCA passed the resolution to start its affiliate state chapters a few years ago.
“The non-Chinese affiliate members started joining MCA last year and we now have a few hundred members throughout the country.
“Today we welcomed the first 100 affiliate members to MCA Sabah. We try to get more,” he said.
