The teachers and students of SMK Datuk Peter Mojutin who achieve success at Borneo International Innovation Creativity Competition (BIICC) 2025.
KOTA KINABALU (July 15): Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Datuk Peter Mojutin Penampang continues to carve a path of excellence by achieving remarkable success at the Borneo International Innovation Creativity Competition (BIICC) 2025, held in Kuching, Sarawak from June 26 to 30.
The competition brought together hundreds of young innovators and educators from across Malaysia and abroad. SMK Datuk Peter Mojutin was named one of the recipients of the Top 3 Most Participation Awards and also received a Special Award (Scientific Project) from the United Arab Emirates, recognizing the school’s strong commitment to promoting student and teacher involvement in the field of innovation.
The school’s principal, Tuan Haji M. Rahim bin Haji Md Lair, said this success was the result of continuous efforts by the entire school community to nurture a culture of innovation and research over the past few years.
“The school is extremely proud of this achievement, which not only brings honor to the school’s name but also proves the dedication of our teachers and the spirit of our students who always strive for more. We hope this success will be a catalyst for us to achieve even greater accomplishments in the future,” he said.
Making the occasion even sweeter, the school’s teacher, Fiona June, was listed among the Top 10 Borneo International Leadership Prize winners and received a Gold Award for Best Practices and Innovations in Learning & Teaching.
Another teacher, Nur Amirah binti Abd Hamid, won a Bronze Award for the Borneo International Educator’s Prize and a Gold Award for Best Practices and Innovations in Learning & Teaching.
In the student category, the school’s young team won four Gold Awards for Best Practices and Innovations in Learning & Teaching. They also brought home Silver and Bronze Awards in the Young Scientist Category, further strengthening SMK Datuk Peter Mojutin’s position as one of the rural schools actively engaged in innovation.
The closing ceremony of BIICC 2025 was officiated by the Deputy Minister of Education, Innovation and Talent Development, Datuk Dr Annuar Rapaee.
The competition has been recognized by the Malaysia Book of Records as one of the largest educational innovation platforms in Malaysia.
With this success, SMK Datuk Peter Mojutin has proven that being located in a rural area is not a barrier to competing at the global level — instead, it can elevate the school’s name on the international stage.
