KUALA LUMPUR (Nov 12): Petronas showed its appreciation of the role of the media by holding an appreciation dinner for journalists from all over the country, including Sabah and Sarawak, at Hilton Hotel here last night.
Siti Azlina Abdul Latif, Senior General Manager of Strategic Communications, Petronas Group Strategic Relations and Communications, said the gathering is to celebrate the media’s invaluable role in collaborating with Petronas to inform and educate society about their activities and progress, shape public perception and encourage discourse that is important for advancing society.
“Your commitment to covering stories for the public has been critical in helping us reach more people and make a meaningful impact.
“So tonight, let us take a step back and enjoy this special evening together as we celebrate the relationship we have built over the years,” she said in her speech.
“At Petronas, we believe our story is more than just ours to tell; it is also yours, the dedicated members of the media. You have been with us through every milestone, challenge and achievement, giving each story a voice and perspective while connecting us with Malaysians and global audiences.
“We are incredibly grateful for your insightful and thoughtful reporting, especially in the dynamics of today’s world, where disinformation and misinformation are becoming the norm, resulting in growing distrust of the public,” said Siti Azlina.
She added this year marks a special milestone as Petronas celebrates its 50th anniversary.
“The media’s support, partnership, and shared purpose has made this journey more meaningful.
“From the domestic front to international landscapes, from conventional oil and gas to new energy frontiers, your coverage has amplified our story and created lasting connections with our audiences,” she said.
Siti Azlina also said Petronas remains committed to supporting and elevating the craft of journalism.
“Through our partnership with the Malaysian Press Institute (MPI) in organising the MPI-Petronas Malaysian Journalism Award, as well as our contribution towards the Kenyalang Journalism Awards (KJA), and the Kinabalu Press Awards (KPA), we hope to inspire even greater achievements and foster impactful storytelling. In acknowledging journalistic excellence, we celebrate stories that educate, inspire, and connect us in meaningful ways.
“At Petronas, we value more than just professional collaboration,” she said.
Sabah singer Marsha Milan gave a powerful performance at the gathering while another ‘sumandak’ Daphne Iking was the master of ceremonies.
A best dressed contest based on retro style, Kahoot competition and lucky draw added to the enjoyment of the night.
