TENOM: The Kemabong Parti Kesejahteraan Demokratik Masyarakat (KDM) Gundohing Voo Ngok Sang stated that he is prepared to run in the 17th state election (PRN17) as a KDM candidate if given the chance.
Known more commonly as Roger, he is among the local figures being considered as a potential KDM candidate for the Kemabong constituency.
“If given the opportunity, I am ready to contest as a KDM candidate,” he said when met by reporters recently.
Voo, who is also a businessman, made this statement when asked about his chances of running in the 17th General Election as a KDM candidate.
He mentioned that KDM was established to advocate for multiethnic politics, focusing on the interests of the people as a whole, including those in Kemabong.
Voo clarified that the perception linking KDM solely to the Kadazan Dusun Murut community is inaccurate; rather, the term KDM (referring to Parti Kesejahteraan Demokratik Masyarakat) represents the fight for the welfare of all ethnic groups in Sabah.
“I urge the people, especially in the Kemabong constituency, not to be easily swayed by the notion that KDM is only for certain ethnic groups in Sabah… that is merely a political gimmick to gain public support,” he stated.
Originating from the Sapong Batu 5 plantation in Kemabong, Voo is determined to further advance the agricultural and tourism sectors while focusing on infrastructure development in the area.
“In terms of tourism, we can increase the availability of homestay facilities and explore new opportunities in ecotourism… this will certainly provide opportunities for villagers to enhance their income,” he said.
According to Voo, after six months of gauging the people’s reception in Kemabong towards KDM, their response has been very encouraging.
“I believe KDM can create a surprise in the Kemabong constituency in the upcoming PRN. The majority of the people here want the ‘Original Sabahan’ party to succeed,” he added.
