KOTA KINABALU (Nov 22): The Rotary Club of Kinabalu Sutera’s flagship project, Vision Care, continues to make a significant impact in addressing vision problems among students.
Yesterday, President Dr Richard Gontusan, along with other club members, dedicated their time to screen 377 underserved students at SJKC Chen Sin in Tuaran. Of these, 144 were identified as needing corrective glasses.
The screening event saw participation from club members Christina Aluda, Alice Kunjan, Paul Chong, Francis Ng, Ir Chaw Zie Der, Roger Yapp, Ken Chong and Jonathan George, along with 10 student volunteers from City University, Kota Kinabalu.
The Chinese national type school, which is attended by 613 students, primarily serves a diverse student body, with 80% of its students being bumiputra, as shared by Lo Shiau Yen, the school’s senior assistant.
This initiative exemplifies the Rotary motto “Service Above Self,” emphasising the club’s commitment to making a lasting and meaningful difference in the community, particularly in ensuring better vision care for students in need.
