KOTA KINABALU (Nov 22): The Sabah FC management has accepted Datuk Ong Kim Swee’s decision to not renew his contract as head coach with the club which expires at the end of this month.
Its general manager, Md Joh Wid, said Datuk Ong Kim Swee chose not to continue his duties as Sabah FC head coach when his contract expires on November 30.
Md Joh said Sabah Football Association (SAFA) and Sabah FC had agreed to extend Kim Swee’s contract until the end of the 2024/2025 season.
“This is following Datuk Ong Kim Swee’s impressive performance while coaching Sabah FC.
“He took over the coaching duties from former Indonesian coach Kurniawan Dwi Yulianto in October 2021,” said Md Joh in a statement today.
Md Joh said under Kim Swee, Sabah FC had claimed consecutive third place finishes in the Super League and guided the team to the ASEAN Zone semifinals of the AFC Cup last year.
“We will find a temporary replacement as soon as possible to ensure the continuity of the team’s performance in facing the remaining Super League and Malaysia Cup competitions,” he said.
Kim Swee’s final match as head coach of Sabah FC will be against PT Athletic FC (in Ceras) in the Malaysia Cup on November 23.
He said that he will choose a new direction to continue his career as a professional coach elsewhere.
