KOTA KINABALU, Oct 19 (Bernama) — A total of 3,000 houses will be built in Sabah next year under the Rumah Mesra Sabah Maju Jaya (SMJ) programme to assist less fortunate people, said Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor.
He said the houses costing RM250 million will be built in all 73 state constituencies in Sabah.
“This programme is being implemented to help our people who are struggling and in need of housing,” he said during his speech at the launch of the Madani Rakyat 2024 Sayangi Sabah Programme at Likas Stadium here today.
The programme was launched by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. Also present were Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali, Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil, Transport Minister Anthony Loke, Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Minister Datuk Ewon Benedick and other federal and Sabah Cabinet ministers.
The Rumah Mesra SMJ initiative was launched by the state government in 2022, providing free homes valued at RM80,000 to residents, particularly those in rural areas living in poverty.
Regarding the MADANI Rakyat 2024 Sayangi Sabah Programme, Hajiji said it reflects the government’s efforts to prosper the country and improve the well-being of the people. It includes several initiatives to help ease the burden on the less fortunate, including a programme aimed at eradicating hardcore poverty.
“This noble programme focuses on needs and the facilities provided by the government, in line with its objectives, which include promoting new policies and initiatives for the people and enhancing public understanding and awareness of the government’s direction and development,” he said.
