KOTA KINABALU (July 11): A Sarawakian was sentenced to four years’ imprisonment by a Sessions Court here today for being involved in a large, unexplained bank transaction.
Judge Amir Shah Amir Hassan handed down the sentence to Wilson Anak Penchen, 40, after he pleaded guilty to a charge under Section 424C(1) of the Penal Code.
The offence carries a penalty of up to 10 years in prison, or a fine, or both, upon conviction.
According to the charge, Wilson — who hails from Bau, Sarawak — was directly involved in the unlawful transaction of RM111,668, which was deposited into his bank account without any valid reason.
The offence took place at a nursery in Penampang between December 25, 2024 and January 7.
The prosecution also informed the court that Wilson is currently serving time at Puncak Borneo Prison after failing to pay a fine for a previous offence involving the misuse of his bank account by third parties.
For this latest offence, the unrepresented accused will continue to serve his sentence at Puncak Borneo Prison.
