KOTA KINABALU, Sept 18 (Bernama) — Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd (SESB) will execute its smart meter project in two phases to upgrade the quality of electricity supply in Sabah, said its chief executive officer, Mohd Yaakob Jaafar.
He said the first phase of the project will start with the installation of 6,497 units involving consumers from the Large Power Consumer category and Feed-in-Tariff (FiT) account holders.
“A total of 60 units will be installed during a two-month trial period targeting selected consumers to ensure a smooth billing system and operation.
“The remaining 6,437 units will be installed as soon as the trial phase achieves its objectives,” he said in a statement today, adding that the two-month trial period will commence in October.
He said the second phase will be implemented next year, covering domestic users in Kota Kinabalu and the Federal Territory of Labuan in line with the theme of KK Smart City & WP Labuan Smart Island.
The smart meters will enable consumers to plan their monthly electricity usage and receive notifications when their target bill amount is reached.
“These new features are timely and aligned with SESB’s efforts to support and realise the government’s aspiration to benefit the people by empowering the digital economy,” he said.
