SANDAKAN: Police have uncovered and prosecuted a case involving the sexual exploitation of a minor.
Acting District Police Chief Supt Ramasamy Kuppan said the incident came to light after a 14-year-old boy sought medical treatment for infection to his genitals and anus at the Duchess of Kent Hospital on Sept 23.
Following a hospital report, police initiated an investigation under Section 377B of the Penal Code.
Three adult men were arrested on Sept 24 in connection with the case.

Read more On Oct 7, the men faced charges at the Sandakan Sessions Court. Two of the accused have been sentenced, namely a 32-year-old man received five years’ imprisonment and caning under Section 377B of the Penal Code, while a 34-year-old man was sentenced to five years’ jail and caning under the Sexual Offenses Against Children Act 2017
The third, a 29-year-old man, pleaded not guilty to charges under Section 377B, with the next court date set for Nov 11.
Ramasamy said such offences against minors are considered serious crimes, carrying penalties of up to 20 years’ imprisonment and caning under current laws.
